The issue we are researching is the energy use here on the Kamehameha Schools Kapālama campus. This is an issue not commonly known, but it is still a very large one. Energy is one of the largest expenses Kamehameha spends annually on. Around 100K to 200K is spent on electricity a year here. Often, things such as lights, air conditioner, etc. are left on and that is money going down the drain. If some of these things were to be shut off for an extra hour, thousands of dollars could be saved. Finding a solution to this problem could benefit many; ranging from students and teachers, to the entire school. There are many financial needs our school is working on pertaining to energy. Trying to lower the amount of energy used could benefit the cost in different department buildings on campus. The less money used regarding energy would allow for more money to go toward things like financial aid, supplies for student, etc. The difficult part of this problem is the people overseeing each department building. It is not easy to control the amount of energy used because of the various activities and events happening on campus. Often, people will go with the simpler solution, rather than the practical one.
